About Me

My name is Jack Polus and I’m attending Michigan State University as an eighteen-year-old freshman from Cadillac, Michigan. I like to think of myself as an outgoing guy and a good listener. I’ve lived in Northern Lower Michigan all of my life and there’s no place I’d rather be. Even after vacations, that take me closer to the equator, I still love and miss Michigan weather. There are a lot of days during the summer where I wish I were riding a chairlift, in the middle of a blizzard, on my favorite mountain. The main thing that describes me as a person is my love for the outdoors. My interests, athleticism, and outdoors-driven personality have fueled my pursuit for a major in forestry.
I’ve been hunting, fishing, and doing everything outdoors since I could walk. I’ve been on annual camping trips with my entire family and there I first learned to ride a bicycle. These experiences, with my friends and family, are the most memorable moments of my life. I’m hoping my career someday will preserve these places that have provided me with these memories. As a forester, I would be outdoors all the time on sites directly interacting with the forests that I've grown up caring about so much. All of my interests, with music and sports, revolve around having a good time. The older I’ve gotten and the obstacles I’ve been through really lead me to believe in the philosophy: doing everything to the best of my ability. Something could happen any day that could change my life forever. Every day I try to have a positive attitude and hopefully create the same positive attitude for others.
As a writer, I’ve always thought of my writing being very structural and organized. My writing is a lot like math in the way that each sentence has a specific purpose for its placement in the essay. I feel that outlined and very organized writing is what I understand the most. Sometimes I keep my ideas too simple and I think it makes my papers boring to read. I over think things in my head so when I transfer them to paper they can become too basic. However, I enjoy writing and I understand its importance in every job.  As a forester, I would be communicating with co-workers, even possible costumers, on types of forest cuts or other forms of forest management. Communication with any job is key and forestry has its fair share of communication even in the form of writing.
